In my English 1010 class I wrote a argument essay arguing if school lunch is really helping kids make better food choices. I chose this topic as it is one that hits close to home. My own children are constantly complaining about their school lunch and I wanted to find out why. What i didn't expect was not what they were eating but what they deemed inedible and so was wasted.
I really enjoyed this assignment, it made me a better writer. I learned about rhetorical appeal and how to properly structure a argumentative essay. I also learned good ways to transition paragraphs. I felt that this paper was my turning point in writing. I revised many times and each time I was able to add to my voice as a writer. I not only learned more about writing but also about why my kids were complaining and what the School is really feeding my kids. I want to try to implement some of the ideas I share in my paper in my own kids school. I know that because of this class I will have a good foundation to my writing skill set.
Another great assignment I did in my English 1010 class was a recipe memoir. When reminiscing on recipes that my family used often growing up, I am reminded of a time in my early childhood when I lived in Canada. I choice a recipe my family loved, Orange Julius. There are so many fun memories that come along with this Delicious frozen beverage.
In writing this assignment I felt like I had found my voice. I loved learning about descriptive language and how to lead up to the main points. I enjoyed being able to look back on my life and pick out moments that help mold me into the person I am today. This assignment makes me want to write a family cookbook even more.
